Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Microbial Natural Products Chemistry
Position Description
A one-year position is available for an independent and highly motivated individual to work as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Department of Chemistry at Fundación MEDINA.
This post is associated to the Research Grant “Characterization of microorganisms associated to gypsicolous lichens as source of antimicrobial metabolites against phytopathogens and study of their biological implications” (Caracterización de microorganismos asociados a líquenes de afloramientos yesíferos como fuente de metabolitos aitimicrobianos frente a patógenos de plantas y estudio de sus implicaciones biológicas) funded by the ‘Consejería de Conocimiento, Investigación y Universidad de la Junta de Andalucía’. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team working in the field and will be responsible for the preparation of extracts and the isolation and structural elucidation of antimicrobial natural products from extracts of lichenologous fungi and actinomycetes.
Position requirements for candidates:
-a PhD, preferably in Chemistry or Pharmacy, with a good publication record related to the field of the project.
-Experience in isolating natural products from complex mixtures, specially from culture broths of microorganisms.
-Experience in the development and/or use of dereplication strategies for the early identification of known natural products in extracts
-Excellent knowledge of chromatography and other purification methods, in particular HPLC.
-Solid background in the use of 1D, 2D NMR and MS techniques to solve complex natural product structures
-Ability to work independently on its own initiative and in a team environment.
-Evidence of independent writing of reports and papers.
-Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are expected for effective interaction with our multidisciplinary research team and with collaborators.
